Five Cool Things Made in Canada

When you think of Canada, you might just conjure up images of maple syrup, beer, and hockey. In honor of my family and friends north of the U.S. border, here are five awesome Canadian-made things that may surprise you:

American-Made Things Loved Today

Five American-made things I've been loving lately: a bath mitt made of honeycomb material, a leopard calf-hair belt, a Pinot noir from Oregon, a trio of eyeshadows, and espresso gelato.

Just a quick selfie to show off some things I've been loving lately, including the combination of plaid flannel and navy stripes:

Weekend Laid Back

This past weekend was very relaxing. I spent most of it catching up on some much needed sleep and laying low. The weather is finally hinting at fall, I got some errands done, and I had a chance to wear some Made-in-the-USA things (old and new).

A Just Peachy Day

Ray, Lena, and Amy
I had such a great day yesterday. I spent the morning taking care of business (Pilates, haircut, blog things). My neighborhood was buzzing with delivery trucks, film crews (lots of TV shows and movies film on location here), and people going about their day. In the afternoon, I had the pleasure of hanging out with two of my girlfriends that I don't see nearly as much as I'd like. On the docket: a concert, some drinks, and a good old-fashioned girls night out.

Putting My Best Beach Face Forward

I apologize in advance for a post that might seem a little vain: makeup for the beach. There is something sort of wrong about putting on a full routine of makeup just to go to a place where, potentially, your face is going to get salty, sweaty, wet, and maybe even a little sandy. Some days, however, I like to have a little something on. So bear with me as I outline what I think is a fairly modest account of what I put on for the beach.

Travel Bags

Last year, my toiletry bag had an unfortunate accident involving a mysterious flower that left a sticky film and giant purple stain that won't wash out. I am on the hunt for a new one and, of course, want something made in the USA. It needs to be stylish but practical. I don't carry a lot of makeup when traveling so it doesn't have to be too big, but I'd definitely need it to be large enough for some makeup brushes, some makeup, a nail file, and a comb.

The Foundation

Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Powder

I tried this Jane Iredale mineral foundation for the first time on a hot, sunny day here in NYC a number of years ago. I was almost out of my normal liquid foundation and pressed powder and decided to search for an all-in-one product. I have, in the past, been allergic to some ingredients in certain face products so I was careful to find a product that wouldn't irritate my sensitive skin.

Batting Lashes

Maybelline Full 'N Soft waterproof mascara

No matter how many fancy-pants mascaras I've tried in the past, I always return to this drugstore staple. I am partial to the waterproof version in Very Black. This mascara has a nice formula that gives my lashes some much-needed volume and doesn't make them stiff or clumpy. It also doesn't undo the curl from my eyelash curler (which non-waterproof formulas tend to do). Lasts all day, all night. Apply one to 10 coats, depending on the occasion.

Mascara-wearers, is yours made in the USA? If so, please share in the comments.
