Black Birdy

After falling in love with the Shinola Birdy wraparound watch, I couldn't make up my mind which version I liked best. I even had pics of my top four choices on my fridge to help me decide. And then, just a couple of weeks ago, they introduced a new version and I knew that it was the one.

The All Black Collection included (surprise!) all black versions of the Birdy (34 mm women's watch), the Brakeman (46 mm men's watch), a mini backpack, and a card wallet. That Black Birdy was just singing out to me with it's matte black PVD plated steel case, classic black dial with curved sapphire crystal, and black leather watch strap made with premium Horween leather. I mean, it is really a sexy watch. Available exclusively on the Shinola website and in their flagship stores in Detroit and New York.

I picked mine up in person on Saturday at the TriBeCa store. The watch is a tad bit big on my wee wrist, even though I have it in the last possible hole. It feels a little foreign still; I'm not used to wearing bracelets. But, man, I really love the look of the watch and I caught myself several times today just staring at it. It's really easy to read: the black dial and white Arabic numbers, the glow-in-the-dark hands, and the clear date indicator. It has all the functionality I need in a watch but has the classy look of leather-wrap bracelet.

P.S. A Shinola Birdy with black leather band and silver face is also available.

P.P.S. I picked up a couple of other things at the Shinola TriBeCa store.

P.P.P.S. More about the Birdy, Shinola, and their Detroit factory.

  1. Gorgeous! I haven't tried the bracelet style watches yet, but I've been coveting them from afar.
