From Farm to Table

Last week, a few girlfriends and I went out to eat at Print Restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. This restaurant is not original in the growing trend of farm-to-table dining, however, it is NYC's first to have a full-time staff member solely devoted to seeking out local and seasonable items to put on the menu. My girlfriends and I had a great night, and Print didn't disappoint.

What's great about a restaurant like Print, is that you know the ingredients are fresh and, especially thanks to their website, you know the source of these ingredients. My meal and wine were delicious and I think owner Adam Block gets the overall feel of the restaurant just right. The decor is comfortable and easy, so it's just as inviting for a solo diner to have a meal after a meeting in Midtown as it is for a couple on a romantic date. All dishes are served up in minimalist, no-nonsense American-made Heath Ceramics dishware (one of my favorites).

Here's what I had on this visit to Print:

Appetizer -- Roasted Beet Salad, Avocado, Walnuts, Goat Cheese, Pea Greens, Citrus Vinaigrette (sorry, forgot to take a picture)

Entree (shown above) -- Sauteed Rabbit, Escarole, Roasted Tomatoes, Olives, Favas, Pine Nuts, Currants



Dessert -- Maple Creme Brulee, Port Poached Figs, and Rosemary Shortbread

Wine -- Hobo Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

A special thanks to my aunt who introduced me to Print a couple of years ago by giving my husband and me a gift certificate for a really great meal. Such a thoughtful and well-appreciated gift.

  1. Enjoyed your post, Amy! I too love that Print has a forager on staff, and hope to taste firsthand sometime soon. Glad to see you gave a nod to the website, we always recommend highlighting local food producers on our client's websites, people want to know where their food is coming from.

  2. A) The menu looks amazing. And your meal sounds just fabulous. I'd love to try it.
    B) It is not convenient to anything, way out in the middle of nowhere Manhattan. Wow.
    C) I hate when a restaurant does not put prices on its website menu. What, are you VanCleef and Arpels, Harry Winston? If I have to ask I can't afford it? Just tell me what I am getting myself into!
    D) At least it isn't one of those restaurant websites with the music that you can't shut off. I hate that.

      B.. It's not a far walk from the subway. Honestly, the walk from after my meal is kind of nice.
      C. It's pretty laid back, actually. I bet the lack of pricing has something to do with them getting fresh products and perhaps these costs change more rapidly. Who knows. Either way, I can say that our meal was about $75 per person (apps to share, entrees, dessert to share, a glass of wine).
      D. Agreed. I hate music on websites. It's right up there with pop-up ads.
