The Colander
Today would have been my grandmother's birthday. She was an incredible woman: the valedictorian of her high school class, a music lover, probably never said an unkind word about anyone, and she spoiled me rotten with patience and love. One of the few things that I inherited from her was this aluminum colander. The star design is something I remember vividly from her kitchen, along with a knife that was pitted and tarnished with age.
While it has a few signs of age, I still use this colander regularly and love how large but light it is. I can easily drain a pound of pasta or wash an entire bag of greens in it. I just recently discovered that it's still available for sale, amazingly, from Jacob Bromwell. This colander is the same design that they have made in the USA for over 100 years and comes with a lifetime warranty. (Talk about standing behind your product!) As you can see from mine, this is an item to pass down to future generations.
Miss you, Grandma. XOXO

That is so cool that you have your grandmother's colander. I have a wooden chopping bowl and stainless steel chopper that was my grandmother's, then my father's, and now mine. It always gives me the warm fuzzies when I use them.
ReplyDeleteRebekah, an inherited chopping bowl? That is so cool. Don't you love how an inherited item like that just invokes some fun (and sometimes goofy) memories?
